The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has contracted GeoPoll to conduct an evaluation on Food Insecurity in seven (7) territories in the Caribbean: –
- Antigua
- Barbados
- Bahamas
- Dominica
- St. Kitts
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Suriname.
Previous studies have been conducted in Africa, Latin America and Asia however, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the study is now being conducted in the Caribbean. D. B. Research Services has been contracted to conduct the data collection in Barbados. Data Collection for this project commenced Tuesday 2nd November 2021 and will conclude by Wednesday 15th December 2021.
The study seeks to understand a household’s ability to access food and how the respondent has been individually affected and the impact it has had on the island overall. As stated on the FAO website “Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) is an estimate of the percentage of a country’s population that faces difficulties in accessing enough safe and nutritious food for normal growth and development and an active and healthy life.” (https://www.fao.org/hunger/en/)
You may receive a call from one of our trained interviewers who will be asking about experiences associated with constrained access to food. Your candid and honest feedback will help our data to be effectively compared across countries, sub-populations and other demographic categories.
Ultimately, this exercise will allow the FAO and relevant authorities to answer critical questions around the groups of persons and the locations where food insecurity presents the greatest challenge.
